Né à Amsterdam, formé à la yeshiva Ets Haim. Appelé vers 1690 comme rabbin de la congrégation portugaise de La Haye, poste tenu jusqu'à sa mort en 1728. Fut président des académies Abi Jethomim et Keter Shem Tob à Amsterdam. Sa bibliothèque, vendue à sa mort, comptait 2 148 volumes (hors livres hébreux), dont des ouvrages « interdits » (Uriel da Costa), étudiée par Yosef Kaplan.
