Banquier de cour à Hanovre et agent du conseil des finances, né à Hanovre au milieu du XVIIIe siècle, fils de Michel David, ami de Moses Mendelssohn, Meyer Michel David lègue vers 1798 cent mille thalers pour fonder à Hanovre une école offrant aux enfants juifs pauvres un enseignement gratuit des sciences, de l'hébreu et de langues modernes, avec une allocation mensuelle. Réorganisée en 1835, la « Meyer Michel Davidsche Freischule » est dirigée par J. M. Frensdorff jusqu'en 1861 puis par S. Kayserling jusqu'en 1898, et continue de former rabbins, enseignants, banquiers et artisans.
