Son of Hillel Noah Maggid-Steinschneider. Secretary to S. J. Fuenn, he assisted him with « Ha-Otzar » (1884–1903) and « Keneset Yisrael » (biographical dictionary of Jewish authors and scholars). He worked notably on a history of the Günzburg family and on the history of Jewish music.
