Auteur à succès traduit en plus de quarante langues ; son roman « Charlotte » (2014), consacré à l'artiste juive Charlotte Salomon assassinée à Auschwitz, obtient le prix Renaudot. Son frère Stéphane Foenkinos est réalisateur.
