Author of the famous Sefer Abudarham, a systematic commentary on Jewish blessings and prayers, completed in Seville in 1340. To explain variations in customs among communities (Spanish, Provençal, French, German), he drew on both Talmuds, the literature of the Geonim, and many earlier custom collections. From a distinguished Sephardic family (a homonymous ancestor was leader of the Seville community).
