Éminent rabbin établi à Avignon au XIIIe siècle, David ben Isaac ha-Kohen est cité comme maître de R. Éliézer ben Immanuel de Tarascon par son petit-fils Aaron b. Jacob ha-Kohen de Narbonne, installé à Majorque en 1306, dans son « Orḥot Ḥayyim », qui rapporte aussi son ouvrage rituel, le « Hilkot Ṭerefot ». Dans ses échanges de responsa avec R. Samuel d'Agde, R. Éliézer le mentionne fréquemment comme son maître et cite en son nom des décisions casuistiques de R. Nathan de Trinquetaille.
