Savant italien de Mantoue, célébré comme l'un des plus éminents prédicateurs de son siècle. Avec ses frères Moïse et Juda, il fut un membre dirigeant de la communauté de Mantoue. Premier parmi les juifs à faire valoir l'importance de Philon, il influença les recherches historiques d'Azariah dei Rossi ; il fut correcteur de l'Akedat Yitzhak d'Arama (Venise, 1565) et projeta une académie juive d'enseignement supérieur.
