Rabbin et commentateur biblique connu comme le « Baal Metzudot ». Voyant l'étude du Tanakh s'affaiblir, il composa un commentaire clair et simple sur les Nevi'im et Ketuvim, publié à Zolkiew en 1753. Après sa mort, son fils Yehiel/Hillel Altschuler acheva l'œuvre et la divisa en Metzudat David (sens du verset) et Metzudat Zion (explication des mots) — les Metzudot, imprimés dans la plupart des Miqraot Gedolot.
