Codificateur lituanien né à Dantzig en 1747 ou 1748 et mort à Vilna le 12 septembre 1820, Abraham ben Jehiel Danzig, issu d'une famille de savants de Prusse occidentale, étudie la Talmud à la yeshiva de Prague sous Ezekiel Landau puis s'établit comme marchand à Vilna avant d'accepter, après avoir perdu sa fortune dans l'explosion d'une poudrière, la charge de dayyan qu'il conserve jusqu'à sa mort. Il est l'auteur des codes « Ḥayye Adam » (Vilna, 1810) et « Ḥokmat Adam » (1814), qui comptent parmi les plus importantes œuvres de codification depuis Joseph Caro, ainsi que du « Sha'are Ẓedeḳ » (1812) et, publié après sa mort, du « Bet Abraham » (1821).
