Polish Jewish writer and pedagogue, figure of the Haskalah in Poland. He founded and directed the weekly Jewish newspaper in Polish Jutrzenka (« Ayyelet ha-Shaḥar », Warsaw 1861–1863), advocating for the diffusion of culture, civic responsibility of Jews and defense against antisemitism. He undertook a translation of the Bible into Polish. After the January 1863 insurrection, the newspaper was closed and Neufeld exiled to Siberia.

Écrivain polonais ; né à Praszka, gouvernement de Kalisz, en 1814 ; mort à Varsovie en 1874. Son activité s'est limitée à son lieu de naissance et plus tard à Tchenstochowa jusqu'en 1861, année où il s'établit à Varsovie. Cette même année, il publia son ouvrage sur le Grand Sanhédrin de 1806 sous le titre « Wielki Sanhedryn Paryski w Roku 1806 ». Le 5 juillet 1861, il commença la publication en polonais d'un journal hebdomadaire pour les Juifs intitulé « Jutrzenka », qui parut jusqu'en 1863. Il publia : une version polonaise des livres de la Genèse et de l'Exode, avec un commentaire (1863) ; une brochure intitulée « Urzadzenie Konsystorza Zydowskiego wPolsce », sur l'établissement d'un consistoire juif en Pologne ; une gnomologie des pères de la Synagogue ; et une traduction polonaise du livre de prières et de la Haggada (1865). Sa fille Bronislawa Neufeld est une écrivaine polonaise et une collaboratrice active des principaux journaux polonais, « Gazeta Polska », « Tygodnik Illustrawany », etc.
