Jacob Curiel, connu dans la vie publique sous le nom d'Alexandre Nuñez da Costa, réside à la cour portugaise de Hambourg vers le milieu du XVIIe siècle et y meurt en 1665. Établi auparavant à Amsterdam, où il participe en avril 1639 à la réunion de la communauté portugaise scindée en trois, il est envoyé vers 1650 à Hambourg par le roi Jean IV de Portugal, qui le fait « Hidalgo da Casa Real ». Élu en 1655 marguillier de la synagogue portugaise, à laquelle il fait don d'un tébah, il est inhumé au cimetière portugais d'Altona.
