Donateur de la bibliothèque hébraïque du British Museum, actif vers 1760. Courtier de profession, il amasse une fortune consacrée en grande partie à des œuvres de piété et de bienfaisance. Grâce à son crédit auprès de plusieurs chefs de la Chambre des communes, il obtient la préservation d'une collection de livres hébreux rassemblée sous le Commonwealth, tombée à Charles II puis négligée, avant d'être vendue à un libraire sous le règne d'Anne ; rachetée sous George Ier par Solomon da Costa, alors jeune homme épris de savoir, elle fut donnée par lui au British Museum.
