Érudit palestinien de parenté séfarade et ashkénaze, né à Amsterdam en 1810, mort à Jérusalem le 6 août 1890. Élève de R. Abraham Susan, il émigre en 1830 à Safed, en Palestine, où il se marie, avant de s'établir à Jérusalem et d'étudier à la yeshiva séfarade. Passionné de manuscrits rabbiniques rares, il en publie plusieurs avec ses propres annotations, dont le Bet Natan (Vienne, 1854), les Ḥamishshah Qonterisim (Vienne, 1864), les Teshubot ha-Geonim (Vienne, 1871) et l'Alfasi Zuta, avec son propre commentaire (Jérusalem, 1885) ; il reçoit de l'empereur d'Autriche la médaille d'or des arts et des sciences.
