Historien de la littérature hébraïque, né à Salonique vers 1618, mort vers 1685, issu d'une famille de savants. Il épouse une petite-fille de Menahem de Lonsano, se rend deux fois en Palestine — en 1644 seul, puis en 1652 avec sa famille pour s'établir à Jérusalem, où il fonde un bet ha-midrash — avant d'exercer comme dayyan en Égypte à partir de 1671. Son œuvre majeure, la chronique littéraire Qore ha-Dorot, composée en Égypte vers 1683, recense les maîtres et auteurs juifs depuis la clôture du Talmud jusqu'à son époque ; le manuscrit original, imprimé à Venise en 1746, fut réédité avec notes par David Cassel à Berlin en 1846.
