Compositeur et numismate français, né à Amsterdam en 1805, mort à Bry-sur-Marne le 17 mai 1880. Ses parents s'installent en France en 1811 ; formé à l'harmonie auprès de Reicha et au chant auprès de Lois et Pellegrini, il séjourne à Rome en 1832 et 1838, puis s'établit à Paris en 1839, où il enseigne et se produit en concert. Directeur du Conservatoire de Lille, il devient ensuite conservateur du Cabinet des médailles de la Bibliothèque nationale et publie des travaux de numismatique, tout en composant, notamment Marguerite et Faust à Paris en 1847 et Le Moine à Londres en 1851.
