Homme d'État australien, né à Londres en 1822, mort en mars 1877. Arrivé en Australie où il entre dans l'entreprise de son père, il s'installe dans la colonie de Victoria en 1846, y acquiert une maison de commissaire-priseur à Melbourne qu'il dirige jusqu'en 1868, tout en étant pendant vingt ans trésorier de l'hôpital de Melbourne et pendant sept ans président de la congrégation hébraïque de la ville. Élu député d'East Melbourne en 1861, il devient maire de Melbourne en 1872.
