Écrivain hébraïque de fiction et critique littéraire, né à Minsk en 1862. Formé à l'école rabbinique de Wolojine, il publia son premier texte hébreu à quatorze ans dans Ha-Maggid, traduisit en 1884 l'Autoémancipation de Léon Pinsker de l'allemand, et fit paraître plusieurs œuvres de fiction, dont Asefat Sippurim et Mi-Shuḳ ha-Ḥayyim en 1885 et Yonah Fotah en 1888, ainsi que des essais critiques sur la littérature hébraïque russe, notamment sur la vie de Levanda en 1897 et sur le poète « vivant et mort » en 1900.
