Talmudiste allemand, mort à Halberstadt en 1793. Jouissant parmi ses contemporains d'une réputation établie de talmudiste et aimé pour sa modestie, il aurait pu, par son savoir, prétendre au poste d'assesseur rabbinique, mais préféra consacrer sa vie à instruire les jeunes dans la science talmudique, refusant souvent, malgré des moyens modestes, d'accepter ses honoraires, car il enseignait par amour de la Torah et non par intérêt. La plupart des érudits juifs qui vécurent à Halberstadt entre 1780 et 1840 lui doivent leur formation talmudique et religieuse.
