Converti au christianisme, fils de Paul de Burgos, mort à Burgos en 1456 ; baptisé tout jeune par son père, il devint archidiacre de Compostelle puis lui succéda comme évêque de Burgos, représentant la Castille au concile de Bâle en 1431. Selon Grätz, c'est son influence sur le pape Eugène IV qui explique le changement d'attitude de celui-ci envers les juifs, ses plaintes contre l'orgueil des juifs castillans ayant conduit à la bulle de 1442 retirant les privilèges accordés par les papes précédents ; parmi ses écrits d'histoire et de morale figure un commentaire du vingt-sixième psaume.
