Bibliste protestant allemand, né en 1679 à Dresde et mort en 1767 à Lübeck, neveu de Johann Benedict II et fils de Samuel Benedict — le plus important bibliste de la famille Carpzov. Professeur titulaire de langues orientales à Leipsic à partir de 1719, prédicateur et théologien jusqu'à sa mort, il s'opposa comme son oncle aux piétistes et publia notamment son Introductio in Libros Vet. Test. en 1721, sa Critica Sacra en 1728 et son Apparatus Historico-Criticus en 1748.
