Philanthrope et fondateur de la synagogue de Hambourg, où il vécut dans la première moitié du dix-septième siècle. Descendant d'une famille espagnole de ce nom et l'un des premiers colons juifs de Hambourg, il fonda en 1630 la première synagogue portugaise de la ville, au risque de s'attirer le mécontentement du sénat, peu désireux d'autoriser les juifs à bâtir un lieu de culte.
