Théologien, historien et bibliste catholique français, né en 1672 en Lorraine et mort à Paris en 1757. Entré chez les bénédictins en 1688, il apprit l'hébreu et devint abbé de Senones. Il publia en 1707 un commentaire littéral de la Bible qui rompait avec la lecture allégorique, puis en 1722 un dictionnaire historique et critique de la Bible, premier ouvrage du genre et point de départ de tous ceux qui suivirent.
