William Buzaglo est un inventeur et empirique anglais mort à Londres en 1788, d'abord connu pour ses poêles d'un nouveau modèle destinés au chauffage des grands bâtiments publics. Il pratiqua ensuite la médecine, prétendant guérir la goutte sans médicaments par le seul exercice musculaire — méthode analogue au massage moderne —, mais fut généralement regardé comme un charlatan en raison de ses publicités pleines d'autopromotion; le capitaine Grose parodia avec humour son manifeste dans un prospectus intitulé « Patent Exercise, or Les Caprices de la Goutte ».
