Salomon Buber est un érudit et éditeur galicien de textes hébraïques, né à Lemberg le 2 février 1827, fils d'Isaïe Abraham Buber. Marié jeune, il entre dans les affaires et devient conseiller de commerce puis auditeur de la banque austro-hongroise et de la caisse d'épargne galicienne, tout en dirigeant longtemps la communauté de Lemberg. Passionné par la littérature midrachique, il publie en 1868 une édition savante de la « Pesikta de-Rab Kahana », saluée pour sa méthode nouvelle; suivirent, selon la même méthode, d'autres éditions midrachiques, dont le « Midrash Tanhouma » (Wilna, 1885) et le « Midrash Tehillim » (Wilna, 1891).
