Isaac Broydé est un orientaliste russe né à Porozowo, gouvernement de Grodno, le 23 février 1867. Il part en 1883 pour Paris, où il étudie à la Sorbonne, obtient son diplôme de l'École des langues orientales en 1892 puis de l'École des hautes études en 1894; secrétaire de Joseph Derenbourg de 1890 à 1895, il poursuit la publication des œuvres de Saadia et devient bibliothécaire de l'Alliance israélite universelle, poste qu'il quitte en 1900 pour Londres puis New York. Il traduit en hébreu les « Réflexions sur l'âme » de Bahya ibn Pakuda (Paris, 1894).
