Wolf Breidenbach est un agent de cour allemand et champion de l'émancipation juive, né au village de Breidenbach, en Hesse-Cassel, en 1751, et mort à Offenbach le 28 février 1829. Arrivé pauvre à Francfort-sur-le-Main, où il étudie le Talmud, il devient, grâce à son intégrité, l'agent financier d'un riche noble puis banquier et joaillier prospère, « Hoffaktor » de l'électeur de Cassel. Il consacre sa fortune à la cause juive, obtenant l'abolition du « Leibzoll » — le péage humiliant frappant les Juifs — à Isenbourg le 25 avril 1803, puis à Francfort le 24 août 1804 et à Darmstadt le 19 janvier 1805; il fut aussi le protecteur du grammairien Wolf Heidenheim.
