Otto Brahm, né Abrahamsohn, est un critique dramatique et directeur de théâtre allemand né à Hambourg le 5 février 1856, formé à la philosophie, à la philologie allemande et à l'histoire de l'art à Berlin, Heidelberg et Strasbourg, élève de Wilhelm Scherer. Auteur de biographies de Gottfried Keller (1883), Heinrich von Kleist (1884) et Schiller (1888-92), il fonde avec d'autres la Freie Bühne pour promouvoir le théâtre naturaliste et Ibsen, puis dirige le Deutsches Theater, où il monte les œuvres d'Ibsen, de Gerhart Hauptmann, de Sudermann et de Halbe; « Die Weber » de Hauptmann y fut joué plus de cent fois.
