Born in Sanaa in a religious Jewish family, arrived in Israel at age 10 during Operation "Flying Carpet". Holder of a master's degree in Hebrew and Semitic linguistics from the Hebrew University, she studied the language of Yemenite women. Her poetry blends Yemenite traditions, feminism and biblical intertextuality; she received the Prime Minister's Prize for Literature in 1990 and founded her own publishing house, Ha'Or Ha'Ganuz.
