Isidor Borowski est un soldat sous Bolívar puis général au service de la Perse, né à Varsovie en 1803 et tué au siège de Hérat en 1837, Juif polonais élevé aux États-Unis. Après avoir servi sous Bolívar puis Méhémet Ali en Égypte, où il enseigna les mathématiques et l'anglais en 1829, il se trouve en 1831 à Bouchehr, en Perse, où le ministre britannique le recommande au prince Abbas Mirza; il s'y distingue militairement, prenant Kotchan puis Sarakhs, et soutient après la mort d'Abbas, en 1833, l'accession au trône de son fils Mohammed Mirza, avant de rejoindre le parti russe et d'être abattu au siège de Hérat; sa veuve, une captive géorgienne, reçut une pension du chah Mohammed.
