Gustav Jacob Born est un histologiste et auteur médical allemand né à Kempen, dans la province de Posen, le 22 avril 1851, formé aux universités de Breslau, Bonn, Strasbourg et Berlin, diplômé médecin de Breslau en 1876. La même année, il devient assistant prosecteur et privat-docent à Breslau, prosecteur en 1877, professeur assistant en 1886, puis professeur d'histologie et d'anatomie comparée en 1898, année où il reçoit l'ordre prussien de l'Aigle rouge; auteur d'une cinquantaine d'essais scientifiques, son ouvrage le plus important reste « Ueber Verwachsungs-Versuche mit Amphibienlarven » (Leipsic, 1897).
