Karl Wilhelm Borchardt est un mathématicien allemand né le 22 février 1817 à Berlin et mort dans la même ville le 27 juin 1880. Formé à Königsberg de 1839 à 1843 sous l'influence de Jacobi, puis à Paris sous Liouville, il devient privat-docent à l'université de Berlin en 1848, membre de l'Académie des sciences de Berlin en 1856, et succède à Crelle à la tête du « Journal für die Reine und Angewandte Mathematik »; ses œuvres complètes furent publiées par l'Académie de Berlin en 1888.
