David Bonan est le rabbin de la communauté livournaise de Tunis, où il meurt en 1850. Sa famille finança après sa mort la publication de ses ouvrages, dont les recueils de responsa « Nishal David » et « Ohel David » (Livourne, 1857) et le commentaire « Mo'ed David » sur l'« 'Abodat ha-Ḳodesh » de Salomon Adret (Jérusalem, 1887); en collaboration avec Juda Lévy de Gibraltar, il avait aussi rédigé « Dai Hashab », responsa sur la coutume imposant aux femmes de se couvrir les cheveux, et « Dai Heshib », commentaire du traité Sanhédrin (Livourne, 1846).
