Leone Bolaffio est un juriste italien né à Padoue le 5 juillet 1848, formé au collège talmudique, où S. D. Luzzatto fut son maître, puis à l'université de Padoue. Avocat à Venise pendant quinze ans tout en enseignant à l'Istituto Tecnico, il devient ensuite professeur de droit aux universités de Parme puis de Bologne, membre de la Commission royale pour la réforme du Code de commerce, et fonde en 1876 la revue juridique « Temi Veneta », qu'il dirige depuis; pionnier de l'introduction de la sténographie Gabelsberger dans les écoles italiennes, il est l'auteur du « Commento al Codice di Commercio » (2e éd., 1899).
