Johannes Boeschenstain est un hébraïsant allemand né à Esslingen en 1472, dont l'ascendance juive, parfois affirmée, fut démentie par lui-même. Élève de Moïse Möllin, il fut l'un des premiers à faire revivre l'étude de l'hébreu en Allemagne, enseignant à Ingolstadt en 1505, à Augsbourg en 1513 puis à Wittenberg en 1518, où il publia des grammaires élémentaires, avant de mener une vie itinérante qui le conduisit à Nuremberg, à Anvers et à Zurich, où le réformateur Zwingli compta parmi ses élèves; il traduisit en allemand certaines prières juives en 1525 et les grâces avant et après les repas en 1530.
