Julius Bodenstein est un peintre paysagiste allemand né à Berlin le 4 août 1847, formé à l'Académie de Berlin sous Schütze et Hermann Schnee, puis, à partir de 1873, élève d'Ad. Lier à Munich. Il se distingue par ses vues de nature, notamment ses « Vingt-cinq Vues des Hautes Alpes » (1879), et expose en 1883 « L'Île de Sylt » à Munich.
