Johann Christian Georg Bodenschatz est un théologien protestant allemand né à Hof le 25 mai 1717 et mort le 4 octobre 1797 à Baiersdorf, près d'Erlangen. Formé aux langues orientales à l'université d'Iéna à partir de 1733, il entre dans l'Église, devient vicaire d'Uttenreuth puis, en 1780, surintendant de Baiersdorf, et consacre sa vie aux antiquités juives; son ouvrage majeur, « Kirchliche Verfassung der Heutigen Juden » (Erlangen, 1748), donne un tableau détaillé et sans parti pris du cérémonial juif, illustré de gravures, dont une seconde édition parut à Francfort en 1756.
