Herman Bodek est un hébraïsant galicien né à Brody le 27 septembre 1820 et mort à Leipsic le 19 août 1880, gendre de S. L. Rapoport et issu d'une famille respectée. Établi à Leipsic comme traducteur d'hébreu près des tribunaux et homme d'affaires, il collabora à la presse périodique juive de plusieurs pays et publia « Eleh Dibré ha-Berit » (Leipsic, 1880), un catéchisme des symboles et objets de la franc-maçonnerie destiné aux francs-maçons juifs d'Orient et d'Europe ne lisant que l'hébreu; il fut lui-même membre de la loge Apollo de Leipsic.
