Heinrich Blumenthal est un industriel et philanthrope allemand né à Darmstadt, en Hesse, le 12 mars 1824, et mort dans la même ville le 27 mars 1901. Formé à la mécanique à Vienne, Nuremberg et Paris, il fonde à son retour à Darmstadt une fabrique de machines agricoles devenue l'une des plus importantes d'Allemagne du Sud, soutient les troupes hessoises pendant la guerre franco-prussienne, et use de son influence auprès du grand-duc de Hesse pour que l'État s'oppose au mouvement antisémite; conseiller municipal pendant vingt-cinq ans et président de la communauté juive de Darmstadt pendant plus de vingt ans, il vit l'une des principales artères de la ville porter son nom.
