Lev Moïsseïevitch Bienstok est un écrivain, éducateur et notable communautaire russe né le 6 avril 1836 à Loukatchi, dans le gouvernement de Volhynie, et mort le 22 octobre 1894 à Jaffa, en Palestine. Formé au séminaire théologique hébraïque de Jitomir, il exerce comme rabbin de Jitomir de 1859 à 1862, devient en 1867 rédacteur du journal officiel de Volhynie et conseiller aux affaires juives du gouverneur jusqu'en 1882, avant de s'installer à Saint-Pétersbourg en 1880 puis de retourner à Jitomir après les pogroms; nommé en 1892 représentant à Jaffa d'une société d'aide aux agriculteurs juifs, il fut aussi l'un des premiers collaborateurs des périodiques « Razsvyet » et « Sion ».
