Joseph Isaac Berruyer est un jésuite français né à Rouen le 7 novembre 1681 et mort à Paris en février 1758, auteur de l'« Histoire du Peuple de Dieu » (Paris, 1728), une histoire des Juifs depuis les origines jusqu'à la naissance de Jésus, doublée d'une étude critique des Évangiles et des Épîtres. Rédigé dans un esprit peu religieux et semé d'observations hasardeuses, l'ouvrage souleva l'indignation des autorités ecclésiastiques, ce qui contribua à sa popularité et lui valut de nombreuses éditions et traductions.
