Salomon Bernich, dit aussi Berenicus ou Beronicus, est un érudit, poète et aventurier d'origine incertaine, apparu aux Pays-Bas vers 1670, remarqué pour sa maîtrise de plusieurs langues et son talent à improviser des vers. Tenu par certains pour un moine évadé de France, il serait selon Yung un Juif natif d'Eger, en Bohême, formé à Vienne et en Italie; il vécut parmi les basses classes, tour à tour ramoneur ou rémouleur, et fut retrouvé mort dans un marais près de Rotterdam. Un recueil de sa poésie latine, traduit en néerlandais (Amsterdam, 1692), figure au catalogue du British Museum sous le nom de « Beronicus, Petrus Joannes ».
