Samuel Berlin est un juriste allemand né à Bamberg le 11 octobre 1807 et mort à Fürth le 21 décembre 1896, fils de Löb Berlin de Bamberg, plus tard « Landesrabbiner » à Cassel. Formé à l'université de Munich, où il obtient son doctorat en droit en 1834, il devient le premier avocat juif du royaume de Bavière, exerce à partir de 1848 à Gerolzhofen — où il se lie d'amitié avec le jeune avocat Freiherr von Lutz, futur ministre — et préside le « Gemeindecollegium » d'Ansbach de 1860 à 1869.
