Savant hébraïque russe ; né le 23 juillet 1803 ; mort à Wilna le 11 mai 1879. Il est l'auteur des ouvrages suivants consacrés à l'étude du Targum Onkelos : (1) « 'Oteh Or », Wilna, 1843 ; (2) « Leḥem we-Simlah », 2 vol., _ib._ 1850-55 ; (3) « Ḥalifot Semalot », supplément au vol. ii., _ib._ 1874 ; (4) « Abne Zion », _ib._ 1877, addenda au commentaire du Onkelos de Nathan Adler.

Les contributions de Berkowitz à l'étude du Onkelos sont très précieuses, leur mérite étant reconnu par des savants tels que Berliner et d'autres spécialistes du Targum. Il a également contribué aux périodiques hébraïques « Pirḥe Ẓafon », « Ha-Karmel », « Oẓar Ḥokmah » et « Ha-Maggid ».
