Simon Bensheim est un membre de l'Oberrat (Chambre haute) grand-ducale de Bade, né à Mannheim le 14 octobre 1823 et mort dans la même ville le 26 octobre 1898. Très engagé dans les affaires communautaires et philanthropiques, il fut élu à l'unanimité membre puis président du conseil synagogal, et le grand-duc reconnut son rôle de dirigeant communautaire en lui conférant l'ordre du Lion de Zähringen de seconde classe.
