R. Benjamin est un tanna du deuxième siècle, contemporain et interlocuteur de R. Eléazar ben Shammou'a dans une controverse halakhique, également cité aux côtés de Symmachus et transmettant une halakha au nom de R. Akiba. Il est vraisemblablement identifiable à Abba Benjamin, à qui l'on attribue des homélies sur les esprits malins qui peuplent l'univers et l'enseignement selon lequel la prière n'est pleinement agréée que si elle est offerte dans la maison de prière publique.
