Ignorant l'hébreu et donc incapable de réciter les grâces prescrites après le repas, il les remplaça par une brève invocation araméenne, « Béni soit le Miséricordieux, maître de ce pain », que Rab approuva et que l'on enseigne encore aux jeunes enfants.
