David Benjamin est un notable communautaire né à Londres en 1815 et mort dans la même ville le 25 juin 1893. Émigré en Australie en 1835, il contribue à fonder une synagogue en Tasmanie avant de rejoindre à Melbourne son frère Solomon, fondateur de la communauté juive de la ville, et de s'associer à la prospère maison Benjamin Bros; rentré en Angleterre en 1854, il se consacre à la communauté londonienne, notamment comme trésorier de la synagogue de Bayswater de 1865 à 1871 puis comme marguillier de 1871 à 1875.
