One of the greatest scholars of medieval Karaism, to the point that some consider him the true founder of Karaism as it was transmitted. His name refers to Nahavand, in Persia. He wrote, mainly in Judeo-Arabic, codes of Karaite law and highly esteemed biblical commentaries (Abraham ibn Ezra cites him with respect).
