Mordecai Benet est un talmudiste, grand-rabbin de Moravie, né en 1753 à Csurgő, en Hongrie, et mort à Carlsbad le 12 août 1829. Envoyé enfant chez sa grand-mère à Nikolsburg puis formé à Ittingen, en Alsace, il étudie ensuite trois ans à la yeshiva de Joseph Steinhard à Fürth avant de s'établir à Nikolsburg en 1773; il devient rabbin de Lundenburg puis de Schossberg, avant d'être nommé en 1789 rabbin de Nikolsburg et grand-rabbin de Moravie, charge qu'il conserve jusqu'à sa mort malgré des offres de Presburg et de Cracovie. Son œuvre talmudique la plus connue, « Biur Mordecai », commentaire sur l'abrégé de Mordecai b. Hillel, paraît à Vienne en 1813.
