Otto Julius Emanuel Bendix est un hautboïste et pianiste danois né le 26 juillet 1845 à Copenhague, frère de Frits Bendix. Formé au hautbois par Christian Schliemann puis élève de Gade et de Rée, il est engagé en 1868 comme hautboïste de l'orchestre royal, poste qu'il occupe jusqu'en 1880, tout en se perfectionnant au piano auprès de Theodore Kullak à Berlin et de Liszt à Weimar (1872-74); il quitte Copenhague en 1880 pour Boston, où il occupe une position de premier plan comme professeur et virtuose.
